Support the Peace Alliance
People often ask what is the most important thing they can do to create Peace and the healing of our planet Earth. The answer, I believe, is to make the conscious shift within ourselves first. Begin to practice peace. We may not always be successful but we can begin. Look to what is being done proactively today and join the millions of people who support the emergence of a global culture of Peace. Let us learn new ways of preventing violence and look to the practice of Peace, which honors the majesty and diversity of all life.
The Peace Planet Project is dedicated to supporting The Peace Alliance and the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace. A statement from the Peace Alliance website:
The Peace Alliance is a nonpartisan citizen action organization representing a growing constituency for peace. A 501(c)4 organization established in May 2004, our mission is to empower civic activism for a culture of peace. Our vision is a future in which the practical programs and principles of peacebuilding are the bedrock of our personal, national and global interest and investment. Our goal is to take the field of peacebuilding from the margins of the political and societal dialogue and bring it to its rightful place: Central to our policymaking, investment and understanding. We achieve this primarily through a massive public education, outreach and citizen lobbying effort. Our current focus is the campaign for a cabinet-level U.S. Department of Peace.
Legislation to establish a cabinet-level Department of Peace and Nonviolence is currently before the House of Representatives (HR 808).
The Peace Planet Project urges you to support the Peace Alliance and this landmark measure, which will augment current problem-solving options, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict.
Domestically, the Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources to effectively reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse, school violence, and various other forms of societal discord. Internationally, the Department will advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated ideas and techniques regarding peace-creation among nations.
